What a pure joy having Fabienne in front of a white backdrop, a roll of Kodak Tri-x loaded and the bright view of the Mamiya RZ67 Pro II medium format camera…
A lot of photographers talk about the magic and corn of the Tri-x 400 film. I’ve never experienced that so far. This could be because I only scan my 120 roll film negatives and not print them the pure way. But I thought why not try it out since I had 3 rolls left. Therefore, I asked Fabienne for the idea of the white backdrop and pure posing.
For the model it is for sure one of the hardest ways to pose and act in front of a white backdrop with a full filling soft light. Because there are more or less no shadows which create a dynamic and that the light gives character in the image. But it was fun shooting that way with Fabienne. Having the experience shooting such pure way exposes somehow the photographer as well the model quite strong. The simple nuances of how you frame and compose the image is suddenly a challenge. And poses that usually work and look fascinating are unexpectedly boring or awkward looking.
At this point I want to thank Fabienne for doing the journey with me and I hope that one or two results are favorized also by her. You find her on Facebook or Instagram. And I shot already with her here, if you are interested. In June we will shoot again together. So stay tuned…
